Instruments and Practice
Students must have an instrument to bring to rehearsals and to practice on at home. A keyboard and drum kit will be provided for rehearsals.
Regular classes (excluding fall 2020 rehearsals) will take place on Sundays, 1:30 – 2:30 pm at Price Music Center on the campus of North Carolina State University. Following a break, the students will observe the rehearsals of TYJE, TYJO or TYJB on a rotating basis until 3:30 pm.
Location of fall 2020 rehearsals TBA. Currently, we are looking at many options for each group’s fall rehearsals such as dividing up into smaller ensembles, rehearsing outdoors and socially-distanced, and offering a consistent virtual option for those concerned about in-person rehearsals. In-person rehearsals will not be mandatory in the fall.
Musicians must make a serious commitment to attending the weekly rehearsals detailed in the calendar below and abide by the attendance requirements in the Jazz Ensembles Handbook 2020-21. Everyone is expected to be ready to play at the beginning of a scheduled rehearsal and at the call time before a performance.
Important Dates TYJL musicians are encouraged to attend:
