Triangle Youth Jazz Lab

Triangle Youth Jazz Lab provides beginning jazz ensemble training with the goal of eventual transition to the Triangle Youth Jazz Band or Triangle Youth Jazz Orchestra.


Musicians, 4th grade and above, who play alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, string bass or bass guitar, guitar, or drums. Students should have a sincere interest in learning to play jazz, be able to read music, and have a minimum of one-year of school ensemble or private instruction.

Selection Process

Students will be selected based on experience, desire to participate, family support for participation, and big-band jazz ensemble instrumentation. We will accept up to 4 alto and tenor saxophone players, 2 baritone saxophone players, 5 trumpeters, 5 trombonists, 2 pianists, 2 bass players, 2 drummers, and 2 guitarists.
