The wealth of talent auditioning on January 12th at Ruggero Piano for the Triangle Youth Philharmonic Honors Recital was incredible! Every single musician who played that day would have represented the Philharmonic Association and TYP very well in the upcoming March “Fourth Friday” recital series at Ruggero Piano. But, we only wanted about an hour of music. Our adjudicator, Harry Davidson who serves as the Conductor of the Duke University Orchestra, deliberated for a long time after the auditions and it was obviously not easy to come to a decision. We are pleased that there will be two chamber pieces on the recital: the second movement of the Ravel String Quartet played by the Philharmonic Association String Quartet: Grace Chow, Seunne Khoo, Esther Zhu and Mary Kolbas and the fourth movement from Brahms’ Third Piano Trio played by the Serio Trio: Jaeyee Jung, Catherine and Max Yates. Brennan Robbins will perform an unusual piece by Katherine Hoover for solo flute and Stephen Chang will play the beloved Arpeggione Sonata by Schubert. We will also be treated to several concerti movements with piano accompaniment: the Dvorak Cello Concerto played by David Kim, Hindemith’s Der Schwanendreher by Esther Zhu and Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole by Seunne Khoo.
