Stories of love, tales of mythological war heroes, journeys to the underworld, courageous declarations of nationalism–our Triangle Youth Orchestra and Triangle Youth Symphony’s Fall 2019 Concert Program will have it all!  For TYO and TYS’s combined fall concert taking place at 7:00 on November 26 at Meymandi Concert Hall, the concert program is one full of action.

The Triangle Youth Orchestra’s portion of the program includes Rossini’s much loved Overture to the “Barber of Seville,”  Tchaikovsky’s wild and catchy “Capriccio Italien,” Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld” which tells of an incredibly exciting and terrifying journey, and a piece titled “Warrior Legacy” written by Soon Hee Newbold, a contemporary woman composer, that tells a gripping story of mythological war heroes. If you want to know more about these exciting pieces, such as the reason The Barber of Seville’s  premiere was so disastrous, the unique original story of “Capriccio Italien,” or more information about the impressive Soon Hee Newbold, be sure to read our TYO  program notes, provided by the Philharmonic Association Musician Interns.

In case TYO’s portion of the concert doesn’t wear you out with its adventurous program, TYS’s program will feature a selection of incredibly bold and dramatic pieces.  With the breathtakingly majestic tone of Wagner’s “March of the Meistersingers,” the tragic emotions that fill Mozart’s Overture to “Idomeneo,” and the unashamedly patriotic spirit that colors both Vaughan Williams’ “English Folk Songs Suite” and Sibelius’ “Finlandia,” TYS’s performance will keep your energy high and you on the edge of your seat.  Again, if you are curious to know the reason “Idomeneo” is so tragic, information about the covert operation surrounding the composition of “Finlandia”, or knowledge about interpret ing Vaughan Williams’ “English Folk Songs Suite,” take a moment to read our TYS program notes.

After reading about the pieces on both portions of the program, hopefully you have come to the conclusion that TYO and TYS’s Fall Concert 2019 is a performance you don’t want to miss!  Again, the concert will be taking place on Tuesday, November 26 at Meymandi Concert Hall.  TYO’s performance will start at 7:00 pm and will be followed by an intermission.  TYS’s portion of the concert will begin at 8:00 pm.  Tickets are available at the door one hour in advance. Balcony $15; Ground Floor: Adults $10, Seniors $10, Children FREE.
