The Triangle Youth Jazz Band (TYJB) will be premiering We Will Overcome by jazz composer, Harold Mims, with saxophone soloist Dr. Ron Carter, respected musician and educator. This composition has been specially written for the 2018 Dreamfest event on January 13. The Philharmonic Association established TYJB in 2013 to accommodate the burgeoning number of young musicians wanting to join a community youth jazz band. Musicians are selected by audition in August, and the current band, led by world-renowned jazz drummer Kobie Watkins, is made up of 25 musicians in grades 6 – 10. TYJB will also perform 88 Basie Street and some additional special selections to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
