Except in cases of financial hardship, the Philharmonic Association requires an audition deposit of $50.00, which is applicable toward the annual participation fee of $255 for the first musician, $455 for two musicians, and $600 for three or more musicians from the same family. Audition dates and times will not be assigned until the $50 deposit is received, or a request for a waiver has occurred. Please call 919-645-8434 if you need to discuss the audition deposit.
Additionally, violinists wishing to to take two auditions will pay a non-refundable audition fee of $10 to help defray the extra adjudicator and administrative costs. This fee will not apply toward the annual participation amount.

Musicians may indicate up to two ensembles[s] for which they wish to be considered. Musicians will not be placed in an ensemble unless they indicate that they would participate in that ensemble.

NOTE; CONSIDER YOUR CHOICES CAREFULLY. Musicians will not automatically be placed in another ensemble if their indicated choices cannot be accommodated. If their indicated choices cannot be accommodated, a musician will NOT receive an appointment to a Philharmonic ensemble.

The deposit will NOT be refundable if:

  • The musician fails to show for the audition and had not cancelled prior to August 5, 2013
  • The musician declines an appointment which they have indicated they will accept

A full refund will be made if a musician notifies the Philharmonic Association and cancels the audition by August 5, 2013.

A partial refund [$30.00] will be made if a musician does not receive an appointment to any ensemble.

Please make audition deposit check out to Philharmonic Association, Inc.

Audition deposits should be mailed to:

Registrations are open until the auditions for your instrument have taken place. Your audition appointment will be mailed to you on or about August 1, 2013 or within three days of receipt of your audition fee, whichever is later.

The required audition excerpts will be posted on the web page by July 19, 2013.

Placement into one of the four Philharmonic Association ensembles [TYP, TYS, TYO, or TYJE] is at the discretion of the adjudicators. Their decisions are final and are not open for review.

Information for Violinists

Due to the large number, auditions for violins are in three groups: one for TYP, one for TYS and one for TYO. The requirements will be different. Violinists may take up to two separate auditions, for an added audition fee of $10, not applicable toward the annual participation fee. Please only sign up for the particular orchestra[s] in which you wish to participate because each orchestra you select will generate a separate entry corresponding to a separate audition time. Violinists who sign up for two ensembles, and cancel the second ensemble audition after August 5, 2013, will forfeit $30 of the audition deposit.
