Overview of Participation in the Triangle Youth Jazz Band

The Triangle Youth Jazz Band is an intermediate, mostly middle school ensemble, directed by Lisa Burn. TYJB is for musicians who want to develop the skills to perform the best of big band jazz in a professional setting. TYJB rehearses on Sundays from 5:30 - 7:00. Dress rehearsal and concert dates for 2016-17 include October 26 and October 30. Membership is by audition in late summer.

Lisa Burn conducting the Triangle Youth Jazz BandLisa Burn is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Trumpet Performance. Upon graduation, she joined the Winnipeg Symphony in Canada. While there, she developed a successful private trumpet studio and was frequently engaged as a trumpet clinician for area music educators. As a jazz educator, Ms. Burn has participated in the International Association of Jazz Educators workshop and the Band Directors Academy sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center. While Director of Bands at Franklin Academy, the Franklin Academy Jazz Band was recognized as the Most Outstanding Band of the High School Essentially Ellington Regional Competition in 2009.

Ms. Burn currently maintains an active schedule as a freelance trumpeter, serving as Principal Cornet of the Triangle Brass Band as well as a private instructor and music education consultant for the Triangle area. In addition, Ms. Burn is an Artist in Residence at Ravenscroft School as both a brass instructor and jazz director.
